Gandhi Jayanti is a national festival celebrated in India to mark the occasion of the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the "Father of the Nation". It is one of the three national holidays of the country. As we all know that we are gathered here to celebrate a nice occasion called Gandhi Jayanti, I would like to recite a speech in front of you all. My dear friends, today is 2nd October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. We celebrate this day with great enthusiasm every year to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation as well as remember his courageous deeds on the way of independence struggle for the country from British rule. We celebrate Gandhi Jayanti as one of the great national holidays all over the India. The full name of the Mahatma Gandhi is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Bapu or Father of the Nation.
2nd of October is also celebrated internationally as the International Day of Non-Violence because of being a preacher of non-violence throughout his life. 2nd of October was declared as International Day of Non-Violence by the United Nations General Assembly on 15th of June in 2007. We will always remember Bapu as a symbol of peace and truth. He was born on 2nd of October in 1869 in a small town (Porbunder, Gujarat) however performed great deeds all through his life. He was a lawyer and he took his law degree from U.K and practiced in South Africa. He had described his life history full of struggle in his autobiography named “My experiments with Truth”. रक्षाबंधन का त्यौहार देश के महत्वपूर्ण त्यौहारों में से एक है. भारत वर्ष में तीज-त्यौहारों का मेला पूरे वर्ष भर लगा रहता है ताकि प्रेम सौहार्द की बेला कायम रहे. उनमें Raksha bandhan अपने हीं सौन्दर्य में रंगा हुआ, एक अनूठा उत्सव है. यह भाई-बहन के अटूट रिश्ते का त्यौहार है. इस त्यौहार के कारण भाई-बहन में एक-दूसरे के प्रति अपने कर्तव्य का आभास होता है, एक जिम्मेदारी का भाव आता है. सभी त्यौहार सामाजिक व्यवस्था को सुचारू बनाने एवं भावनात्मक दृष्टि से जुड़े रहने का सन्देश देते हैं.
कब मनाया जाता है रक्षा बंधन ?राखी का यह पवित्र त्यौहार पवित्र सावन के महीने में पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है.
पौराणिक कथा :सभी त्यौहारों के पीछे उसका महत्व अर्थात कहानी छिपी होती है, जो हमें उस त्यौहार का हमारे जीवन में मूल्य तथा महत्व बताती है. साथ ही त्यौहार के इतिहास को हमारे सामने रखती है.विष्णु भगवान के वामन अवतार के समय की कहानी है. राजा बलि ने अपने बल से पृथ्वी सहित तीनों लोकों को जीत लिया. इस प्रकार तीनों लोकों में उसका आधिपत्य हो गया. इंद्र देव ने इससे भयभीत होकर भगवान विष्णु को कोई उपाय करने कहा. विष्णु जी वामन अवतार लेकर राजा बलि के द्वार पर गये. ब्राहमण को द्वार पर देखकर राजा बलि ने उनसे कुछ भी मांगने का आग्रह किया, तो वामनरूपी भगवान विष्णु ने तीन पग भूमि माँगी. जिसके बदले में राजा बलि ने वामन देव को आशीर्वाद स्वरूप सदा उनके पास रहने का वचन लिया. वामन देव ने अपने रूप (आकर) को बढ़ाकर तीन पग में धरती, आकाश और पाताल को अपने आधीन कर लिया और बदले में राजा बलि को खुद को सौंप दिया.  यह देख माता लक्ष्मी चिंतित हो गई. और उन्होंने सावन की इस पूर्णिमा के दिन राजा बलि को रक्षासूत्र बांधा और बदले में अपने पति को लेकर चली गई. इस प्रकार माता लक्ष्मी ने राजा बलि को भाई बनाया और भाई बलि ने बहन लक्ष्मी की इच्छा पूरी की.इस तरह की कई कहानियाँ हमारे इतिहास में हैं जो राखी के इस त्यौहार का महत्व बताती है.
कैसे मनाते हैं रक्षाबंधन ?

सावन की पूर्णिमा को बहनें जल्दी से स्नान कर पूजा करती हैं, सबसे पहले भगवान को राखी बंधती हैं.

फिर थाल तैयार की जाती है जिसमें कुमकुम, चावल, दीपक, राखी, रुमाल, श्री फल एवं मिष्ठान रखे जाते हैं.

भाई को रुमाल देकर उसके दाहिने हाथ में श्री फल दिया जाता है. श्री फल पर पहले ही कुमकुम एवं चावल लगाया जाता है.

इसके बाद भाई के माथे पर तिलक एवम चावल लगाया जाता है. उसके दाहिने हाथ पर राखी बाँधकर उसकी आरती उतारी जाती है.

इसके बाद मिठाई खिलाकर उसकी लंबी उम्र की प्रार्थना की जाती है.

इसके बाद भाई बहन के चरणों को छूता है एवम उसे उपहार देकर उसकी रक्षा करने का वचन देता है.
